In the mobile game, Clash Royale, chests are the most coveted item, since you can get all cards from these chests. You can buy some of the chests, but when you win battles, you can acquire all types of chests. There is also a free chest.

So let’s take a look at the different types of Clash Royale chests:

Legendary chest

You can only earn silver, golden, magical, epic, legendary and super magical chests if you win the battles after the tutorial. Periodically, you can get free and crown chests as well. However, the crown chests need at least 10 crowns to unlock. If you are placed in the top 20% in a tournament, you get a tournament chest. You need to play in a challenge to win a challenge chest. Every time you win in a challenge, the number of cards and gold inside the chest increases with every win.

Depending on the amount of crowns/wins you clan collects in a particular event, allows you to earn clan chests and battle chests. The tier of the chest and the corresponding rewards increase with each crown or win, but the card depend on which arena you are playing in. You need to unlock the chests that you win in a battle, before you can get to their contents. The unlocking of a battle chest takes some time. If you want to skip this waiting time, you will have to use gems.

A single player will have four chest slots. Therefore, you can only have up to four chests at a time.  These four slots can contain silver, gold, magical, super magical, epic, or legendary chests. If you are chest slots are full, you can still participate in a battle, but you cannot win more chests. You can only win gold and crowns. Free, crown, tournament, challenge, clan, and clan battle chests are stored elsewhere and do not block the four slots.  

Except for the legendary chests, chests always contain cards from the arena where you earned them and below. Legendary chests contain a legendary card from any arena. If you unlock a new arena, new cards are added to the chest rewards – but no cards are taken out. You can find gems only in free and crown chests.

240-Chest Cycle

Chests are determined by a 240 chest cycle and not chance. This cycle begins only after you have obtained all four wooden chests from the tutorial. You earn the first silver chest in the final battle of the tutorial.

Some key points to remember:

The cycle only advances if there is at least one slot empty.
There are 180 silver chests, 52 golden chests, four magical chests, and four giant chests in the cycle.

Super magical, epic and legendary chests follow a separate cycle.
